Social Media Manager

In this new role within Marketing and Communications, you will develop and manage the suite of social media channels used by the university in support of student recruitment and retention.  Acting as the university expert in this area, you will provide analysis of social media usage, advising on patterns of use and emergence of new media platforms on an on-going basis.  You will develop guidelines for each channel, setting and monitoring the university’s brand across social media.  The recruitment and management of online student ambassadors working on the university’s social media channels will also be your responsibility.  You will possess a professional marketing, public relations or related qualification, be educated to degree level or equivalent and possess demonstrable experience of social media development in a complex professional or business context.  The ability to plan strategically with experience of developing and implementing a communications strategy with proven results is also essential.  The post is fixed-term for 18 months.  Job sharers welcome.

Research Technician

Based in the School of Environment and Technology, you will plan, operate and monitor (using appropriate laboratory procedures) a range of experiments designed to test the efficacy of physiochemical procedures for the disinfection of municipal wastewaters and sludges. You will ensure all procedures are carried out according to current health and safety regulations, including training students and staff in risk assessments, organise demonstrations and inductions and prepare and deliver in-depth technical instruction and guidance in the use of equipment and materials.  You will have a BSc/BEng in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or Microbiology, or equivalent experience in the wastewater treatment industry. Psychology Technician

The School of Applied Social Science is seeking to appoint a Psychology Technician to assist in the provision of specialist technical services to the psychology teaching and research effort of the school.  You will operate and maintain psychological research apparatus, equipment and instruments, including computers and peripheral devices.  You will work in laboratories and computer suites supporting, guiding and instructing psychology students and staff on a range of technical support for research projects, involving technologies that support qualitative and quantitative methods and have shared responsibility for ensuring Health and Safety procedures are followed.  You will be capable of working independently, planning own work programme and responding to requests for support and advice in an organised and logical manner. 

Whilst this is a technical rather than academic post, you should have a good (1 or 2:1) relevant degree, containing a significant psychology component incorporating training in psychological research methods and carrying BPS accreditation, or the successful completion of a postgraduate conversion course.  A transcript of your degree results will be required to be presented at interview.

It is anticipated that the post will begin in March 2013 and is fixed-term until 31 March 2015 in order to evaluate the viability of the role.

Research Fellow

You will be a key member of a specialist team engaged in research on the collaborative project entitled ‘Development of the full Lagrangian approach for the analysis of vortex ring-like structures in disperse media: application to gasoline engines’. The project is supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and is focused on the development of analytical and numerical models for spray dynamics.  You should have a good (1 or 2:1) degree in fluid dynamics, mathematics, physics or engineering and a relevant post-graduate qualification/PhD or an equivalent level of professional experience. Competence in analytical and numerical modelling of multiphase flows and sprays, and the related processes is essential.

You will also have good oral and written communication skills in English. The School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences wishes to appoint a Professor/Reader in Medicines Optimisation who will strengthen our current teaching and research activities. This post is jointly funded with the Brighton and Sussex University Hospital NHS Trust and will require significant partnership working.

The successful candidate will be an active researcher, maintaining their specialist expertise and carrying out clinical practice with the NHS Trust. They will lead on Clinical Pharmacy research, education and training at the University of Brighton, liaising with the NHS Trust and regional healthcare providers, ensuring that the strategy is aligned with local and national priorities. As part of this role the successful candidate will take a pivotal role in the development of the proposed Centre for Clinical Pharmacy which will a joint group between the university and the Trust responsible for developing joint vision and strategy. They will, in addition, support the Trust in developing cutting edge medicines management services.
