The United States' connection with the university
There are currently 73 students and 332 active alumni of the university who are from the USA. Students from the USA choose the University of Brighton because of our strong standing in key subject areas of interest.
- Our degree and masters courses in Business, Management and Economics benefit from the internationally recognised research at our Centre for Research in Innovation Management (CENTRIM). The latest Research Assessment Exercise determined that 70 per cent of our research in business management is of international standing.
- Business studies students benefit from the training and consultancy work of professors. Students gain practical and leadership skills in a research active community.
- Our study abroad programme is extremely popular for summer schools and for junior semester and years abroad.

English language tuition
The UK Border Agency requires that all students complete a secure English language test before applying for their visa. The university's Brighton Language Institute can help undergraduate and postgraduate students from USA to complete their SELT and to undertake English language programmes to meet university entry requirements.

Immigration and visas
USA is a country of many nationalities, including many people with citizenship of the UK but residency in USA. Your residential status will determine your tuition fees and the type of visa you will require to come to the UK to study.
Generally, prior entry clearance (ie. a visa) is required for students coming from USA. To obtain a visa you will need to have an unconditional offer of a place at the University of Brighton and your CAS number from the university. You will need to prove that you have the funds to pay your tuition fees and living expenses.

Study abroad with a summer school, semester or junior year abroad (JYA)
We offer excellent study abroad opportunities through summer schools, semester or junior years abroad.
While you enjoy your studies as part of the University of Brighton community, you will be assisted by caring advisors who can help you to adjust to UK university and cultural life. To make the most of this life experience for you, we provide organised field trips in the UK and to Europe. Brighton is a great choice for your study abroad experience.
