Aims:

To enable students to:

  • Develop an understanding of the context, structure and organisation of international tourism
Learning outcomes:

By the end of the module students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the development, scope organisational structures and sectors of the international tourism industry.
  2. Understand the key factors underpinning the demand for and the supply of international tourism.
  3. Examine relevant theoretical concepts and models,and demonstrate application within the context of the international tourism industry.

  • Patterns, flows, trends and measurement issues
  • Intermediaries
  • Tourism sectors
  • Destination development
  • Principles of sustainability and associated concepts
  • The future of tourism

Total Learner Hours: 200

Contact Hours: 48 consisting of a series of lectures, seminars and workshops.

A range of case studies to support the above will be used.
