Aims:

To enable students to:

  • Identify the variety of services, products and working systems within the international transportation sector and understand the importance of transport in the wider context of the tourism and travel industry.
Learning outcomes:

By the end of the module students will be able to:

  1. Analyse a range of information and discuss issues relevant to particular methods of transport provision.
  2. Exercise significant judgement with regard to the wider social and environmental implications of transport provision.
  3. Understand different themes and issues within the provision of transport.
  4. Identify and examine operational issues common to all transport providers.
  5. Understand the complexities of transport legislation, regulation and political intervention within the industry.
Content:
  • Patterns of competition, interdependence and integration of transport organisers.
  • The variety of transport organisers and their link with the tourism industry
  • Political, legal and regulatory framework within which the transport providers operate.
  • Sustainable, environmental and social impacts of transport provision.
  • Privatisation, subsidisation, consolidation and integration within transport.
