Aims:

The aims for this module are set into the context of the QAA Framework for Higher Education Qualifications and they relate to the SEEC level descriptors for level 4.

  • The module aims to introduce students to some key concepts and issues in Sport and Leisure Management.
Learning outcomes

In relation to the QAA Framework for Higher Education Qualifications and the SEEC level descriptors for level 4 study, by the end of the module students should be able to:

  1. Identify basic methods of assessing and meeting customer requirements in a sport/leisure context.
  2. Outline some of the operational and management functions involved in the provision of high service quality in sport/leisure services/industries.
  3. Describe some of the basic methods involved in staff selection, induction, motivation, appraisal and retention.
Content:

This module introduces students to key issues in Sport and Leisure Management in all three sectors of provision. It focuses on the operational procedures involved in meeting customer needs in sport/leisure services and in particular on the influence that staff behaviour has upon the customer’s experience. It examines the context for the increasing emphasis in quality systems and procedures in Sport/Leisure Management. Students learn to identify a series of operational problems at a hypothetical facility, based on real life examples and subsequently provide suggestions for improvement based on contemporary industry and government policies and practices.
