Aims:

To enable students to:

  • Develop a working knowledge of managerial accounting techniques and concepts
  • Develop spreadsheet design skills
  • Evaluate and present management information
Learning outcomes:

By the end of the module students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of key managerial accounting concepts and techniques
  2. Produce a financial budget and business plan, including Profit and Loss Account, Balance Sheet and Cash budget.
  3. Evaluate and explain financial information
  4. Evaluate the feasibility of financial business forecast
  5. Use a spreadsheet to manipulate and present financial information
  6. Demonstrate basic spreadsheet design skills
  7. Produce a group response to a case study challenge.

  • Understanding cost concepts and cost behaviour
  • Cost Volume Profit Analysis and Pricing
  • Financial statement presentation and evaluation
  • Evaluating management reports
  • Cash planning and working capital management
  • Short term decision making
  • Using budgets for management control and analysis
  • Long term decision making
