Aims:

To enable students to:

  • Develop a factual & conceptual knowledge of geography of tourism in a world context
  • Identify, in geographical terms, key world tourist destination and transport hubs
Learning outcomes:

By the end of the module students will be able to:

  1. Understand and compare geographical transport patterns and flows
  2. Acquire & apply geographical concepts and apply them to tourist destinations and flows
  3. Understand, in geographical terms, the nature and development of tourism, with special reference to the EU and International destinations
Content:
  • Tourist destinations in geographical terms
  • Climate and weather
  • Time and its effect on transport and the tourist
  • Natural and Cultural tourist destination
  • Resort development
  • Geography of the EU and International destinations
  • Understand the geographical transport patterns and tourist flows of the world with emphasis on world transport networks and hubs
