Study abroad student testimonials
We want all of our study abroad students to enjoy their time at the university and in England. This is what some our students have had to say about their study abroad experience at the University of Brighton.
Megan Farley (United States)
"Studying abroad has been the experience and opportunity of a lifetime, especially in Brighton. I cannot imagine having a better time at any other university abroad. The professors and the advisors are absolutely fabulous and through them we have had the opportunity to see sites such as the White Cliffs of Dover and Stonehenge, which may have been difficult to reach otherwise.
My ultimate favourite aspect of being in Brighton is having the coast and environment of the pier so close. There is always something to do in Brighton and in my time here I have not been able to experience even half of it. I love the city, University and my entire study abroad experience at Brighton."
Andrew Hedwall (United States)
"I had not done much travelling before I came to England and I knew I wanted to study abroad but I really wasn't sure where to go. I decided on Brighton because I didn't want to deal with a foreign language. The experience I had in Brighton, like most experiences, really cannot be put in to words.
Brighton brought new perspective to the terms friendship, travel and adventure for me. I am very grateful for my time here and I am not sure what I would have done or who I would have turned out to be if I had not come here."
Lars Aaes (Denmark)

"The time I spent in Brighton was one of the best experiences of my life. I did not think that being on a study abroad programme would change my life so much. I made new friends and learnt new perspectives.
Living in Brighton was an excellent choice for me. The weather was nice and the sea, the beach and the pier made my experience so much better. The city is a great city to study with loads of other students to interact with and lots of partying. I really enjoyed it."
Kaitlyn Guthrie (United States)

"Before going to Brighton I had never been out of the United States. To say I was nervous would be an understatement. But coming and studying abroad was by far the best experience of my life so far.
My group was really close and we all got along very well. I also got an opportunity to live with English flat mates with whom one of them I still keep in touch with. I also made friends with other international and English students in the nearby flats and in class.
I enjoyed Brighton because though it was for the most part a modern city with shopping and transport it has a very genuine English feeling with The Lanes with little cafes, shops and pubs, and the large Pavilion that stands in the middle of the city. The night life is very active and really quite fun to join in. The people there are very friendly and the city is very accessible and is an easy trip to either London or Gatwick International Airport. Being that close to the airport also meant that there was ample opportunity to travel. I visited Ireland, Scotland, Spain, and Italy by plane; Wales by train; and with Discovery Tours (located in town) I got to visit Holland and Belgium.
All in all I would recommend having this experience to anyone, especially having it in Brighton. Not only get a new educational experience, I went from never being out of the United States to getting to travel to a large portion of Western Europe. But most of all I think the greatest part of this experience was the memories I’ll have with the amazing folks I met, travelled, and got to know over the term I spent in Brighton."

"When I first thought about studying abroad, my first thoughts were to have a good time. Well what better place to do it than at the University of Brighton. Never did I stop and think about all the amazing friends that I would be making in the few short months; the wonderful and unforgettable memories, and the many places visited. There's nothing about Brighton that's not to like, it’s on the beach, the people are friendly and the nightlife is a never ending ball of fun!
But those weren't the only things that were great about studying abroad at the University of Brighton. The staff were very friendly, and always willing to help out. Not to mention, they were always delighted to be able to accommodate you in their modules/classes. But none of this would have been able to happen without the splendid advisors I encountered - Mary and Zoe. These women are two of the best advisors I've had since starting university (maybe even better than my own at my home university). Needless to say, the University of Brighton has the best and friendliest staff that one could hope for when studying in a foreign country.
Nothing prepared me for the incredible time that I experienced in Brighton. But in the end, the friendships and memories that I made while being there are priceless and unforgettable. I would say that my decision to study abroad at the University of Brighton was a stupendous decision!"

"The USAC programme was an amazing experience. Living in Brighton, by the seaside, was a dream come true for me. The programme advisors helped me to feel at home and the friends I have made through tis programme are all lovely. I will always cherish my memories of Brighton."
