Wireless Network Improvements – Mithras House

We are currently developing a high end video conferencing service between Eastbourne and Brighton as a proof of concept which can potentially be rolled out to other sites.

Aspire is an online tool for creating reading lists that streamlines access to all types of resources – books, e- journals, web sites and more! Aspire reading lists will be linked to students’ study areas in studentcentral.

Aspire was implemented  September 2012.

This project will upgrade and develop current network architecture for the benefits of teaching, learning, research and staff support departments to enhance the student experience expected from a 21^st century university. Please read on for more details of how this project will progress over the next 5 years.

As part of our ongoing network modernisation project , we have completed  a number of improvements making our wireless and wired networks more resilient and dramatically increasing the capacity. Read on to find out what we are currently working on and what we have completed over the past year.

Wi-Fi has been extended to provide full coverage throughout the library.

A new library Help Desk has been installed.

Two new informal seating areas have been introduced for group work on a first come first served basis. 

This summer we have completed the transformation of the space beyond the library entrance and Help Desk into a social learning space.

September 2012: The two new study rooms are now in use. Project completed.

In September we implemented a new account lockout policy to protect against brute-force attacks on University staff and student accounts. This will prevent unlimited password guessing and will result in accounts being locked out after ten incorrect password entries.

Instances is a new system that will be implemented over the coming academic year 2012-2013. It will handle the creation of study areas on studentcentral. It will provide both students and academics with consistency and common expectations for module areas. Students will be able to access their full academic profile and history as it builds up over the course of their studies.
