Library/computer accounts

This section summarises the steps you need to take before you can borrow books from the library, use university computers, or borrow media equipment.

Essential: You must have a UniCard to borrow items from our libraries and media centres

Essential: You must know your university username and password before you can use computers in libraries and open access computer rooms

If all goes well, you should have all these essential things by the time you have completed your enrolment.

If you are not sure what you need to do, have a look at the information below which summarises the stages and describes when you will get your username, password and UniCard.

STEP 1: Your computer account is created
As soon as the Registry knows you are planning to start a course here, they will enter your details onto the central computer systems. Once this happens your library and computer accounts will be created.

STEP 2: Activating your account
The Registry will invite you to activate your computer account. When you activate your account you will be given a university username, password and email address. You can then start using your computer account. For more information on activating your account, see the admissions information on the university website.

If you don't activate your computing account before you arrive at university, you will find you can't log in to university computers. However, you can use a temporary login name so that you can set up your own account. For information see help sheet 686

STEP 3: Enrolment part 1
Shortly before your course begins, the Registry will invite you to enrol. There are two stages of enrolment: 'Online enrolment' and 'in person enrolment'. You should complete your on-line enrolment before you arrive at university. Simply connect to studentcentral using your new university username and password and look for the enrolment tab. You should also upload a digital photo of yourself as soon as possible so that your UniCard can be prepared for you.

STEP 4 : Enrolment part 2
When you attend university and complete your 'in person enrolment', the university's Registry staff will give you your UniCard. You can then borrow books and equipment from libraries and media centres.

To find out more about the enrolment process, see the information published in the Get Ready Guide

You should also see below to find out what happens if you change your details, or leave the university.
