Tools for working with long documents
A must before you start using Word to write your thesis or any other long document, this course shows how to build your documents efficiently to save you time and frustration. Includes efficient formatting using styles, building a table of contents automatically, planning and editing documents using the outline view, headers and footers, page numbering and managing individual sections of a document using section breaks.  For a taster, watch this 2-minute introduction to styles.

Getting Started with EndNote - Bibliographies made Easy
This course introduces EndNote bibliographic software. It is designed to help you input, store, organise, retrieve and format lists of references. EndNote helps you create and manage your own reference collections and format them according to your chosen referencing style. You can also use EndNote with Word to insert references as you write your document.

Keeping up to date with research using academic resources
Effective search techniques using Online Library databases and keeping up to date with research in specific subject areas.

Creating images using Photoshop - Importing, enhancing and manipulating digital images.

Analysing data with Excel pivot tables - without the need to build complex formulae. Watch this 1-minute introduction to pivot tables to see what this session is all about.

Bibliometrics: analysing research performance indicators - journal impact factors, creating citation reports, the H-index and other bibliometric indices.

Mendeley - explore how you might use Mendeley in your research: for example to download references and pdfs from online journals, web pages and other online content, and how you can share this information with other researchers working in your field.

Getting to Grips with MindGenius - a visual tool for planning and structuring ideas for reports, theses and presentations, which can then be converted automatically into Word or PowerPoint.
