Role of the IT Programme Management Office

The IT Programme Management Office (PMO)  is a new component of an emerging management infrastructure for corporate-funded IT developments at the University to support the Framework for Information Systems Development. The PMO team, when fully resourced, will play a major role in managing the Corporate IT Programme and in bringing greater coherence and rigour to the planning, management and control of IT projects in all parts of the institution. The team exercises leadership in the establishment of this new formalised approach on behalf of the Director of IS,and drives the adoption of new standards in IT project management across the University.

Key activities of the team will include:

• Development of project management policies, processes and standards
• Guidance and support on project governance and delivery
• Leading and monitoring project compliance and best practice
• Act as an approval authority for major IT projects
• Manage appropriate corporate IT projects where resource permits
