Gaining IT Project Approval

At the moment funding approval is operated separately by either SMT or UMG.

For IT approval where IS resource is required for projects the IT Programme Board (ITPB) will carry out the approval and monitoring.

The ITPB is not a formal committee of the university, but a working group with the project oversight role. At the moment it consists of Director IS, (chair), Head of Finance, Head of Internal Audit, Assistant Directors IS ITS and Customer Services, and the IT Programme Manager.

There have been varied proposals on how to manage the financial approval of projects, and at the moment the IT programme Board gives the formal IT approval of projects as being assessed as technically viable to proceed. Work remains to be done to resolve the financial and technical approval processes and set the level of this board.

The IT Programme Board sits above the projects, and so far has undertaken a very light touch oversight role.  It does not replace the need for a Project Board.
