This 5 Stage IT Project Management Framework has been developed from established methodologies and good practice, and we acknowledge the University of Derby as a major source for this University of Brighton version. This framework provides a set of workflows, with document templates, guides , and forms that are designed to be used together to work through a project, from its conception (Think It) through to evaluation of the project's outcomes (Benefit).
The framework allows us to build a clear picture in the early stages of what we are aiming to do and why, and gives us a better understanding of IT projects, making it easier to learn from them, and plan in the future.
5 Stage Model - the five "Its". The Project Management Framework is a 5 stage model into which all IT projects across the University will fit.
- Think It - Capturing opportunities, ideas, reasons and some possible risks that are approved for further investigation. This It provides a high level understanding of :- What, and Why,
- Plan It - Defining and planning the project. Identifying the Scope, Business Case, Timescales, Costs, Resources, Communication. This It provides the What, Why, Who, When and How
- Do It - Designing and developing the product(s), as well as monitoring and managing the detailed tasks required to deliver the product(s)
- Deliver It - Delivering the products/outcomes of the project to the customer and to operational support teams in user and IT departments
- Benefit - Reviewing the outcomes of the project to ensure the projected benefits, established within the Business Case, have been realised or will be followed up in the future.
