Computer First Aid Clinics Print

Image Information Services has relaunched another free service for students. You can bring your personal computer to a computer 'first aid clinic’ for help and advice on any of the following:

  • diagnosing computer faults – finding out what may be wrong and what needs doing
  • system configuration – setting options to help your computer run smoothly
  • network connection - setting up your computer for use on the university’s network (wireless or cable) – see * below for connection in halls
  • anti-virus help - protecting your computer from viruses and spyware
  • computer security – steps to keep the hackers and snoopers away!

The Computer First Aid Clinics are free to students and are run on a best efforts basis. In cases where hardware faults are identified, we may be able to suggest actions to be taken, but will not be able to undertake repairs. The emphasis of the clinics will be on helping you to understand you own computer and carry out simple software maintenance yourself. For example, we may guide you through processes such as installing and updating software, or checking for viruses.

Disclaimer

You will be asked to complete a disclaimer form before we look at your computer. To save time and avoid misunderstanding, please look at the information in this form before attending one of the clinics: (Word version) (pdf version)
