Who are Information Services? Print

Information Services provides library, media, reprographics and computing services to support you on your course. This guide gives you an overview of these services and how to start using them.

Your library

Once you have enrolled in person with your school, you will be given your UniCard which will entitle you to borrow from any of our six libraries and our media centres. You will find a range of books, DVDs, journals and other materials for your course, as well as photocopying and scanning equipment at your local site library. For up-to-date information about opening hours, locations and contact details, explore this website. (www.brighton.ac.uk/is )

Library and study areas

Renew your books online

The library catalogue enables you to check availability, reserve and renew, books, journals, DVDs and other items across all site libraries. It shows you what items you have on loan and how to reserve and renew items. You can access the library catalogue from the online library tab on studentcentral (see later), from computers in the library, or via the web at library.brighton.ac.uk. Also on the home page of studentcentral is a link to 'My Library Account' which shows you what items you have on loan, or reserved and whether you owe any fines.

Study space and additional facilities

The libraries have quiet and silent areas for individual study and group study areas for you to work on group assignments. We have facilities for you to watch DVDs and videos, and listen to sound recordings.

The libraries have facilities for users with additional needs. These include scanners, screen-reading and text magnification software, height adjustable desks and induction loops. For detailed information, go to the study support section of our website www.brighton.ac.uk/is

Help in the libraries

Teams of staff are available to help throughout library opening hours; these include specialist subject librarians. To find out who is responsible for your subject areas, go to www.brighton.ac.uk/is/ia
