As director of studies for the Brighton Language Institute, Patrick coordinates all English language provision for speakers of other languages across the university.
For almost 20 years, Patrick has taught across the UK, France, Italy, Cyprus and Russia. He came to the University of Brighton to contribute to English language teaching and learning in 1999.
Patrick holds a BA(Hons), a Cambridge DELTA, an MA in TESOL and is also an experienced teacher of teachers.

Sally is an experienced English language teacher and has previously worked in London and Brazil. She has been teaching English at the University of Brighton since the early 1990s, directs the English for Academic Study programme and teaches undergraduate pre-sessional English programmes and the extended masters.
Gary Hicks

Gary has been involved in English language teaching for over 20 years. As well as working as a teacher, he has worked in resource management, school management, teacher development, teacher training and as a trainer for an educational publisher.
Now based in the UK he has recently had the opportunity to work in Sweden, Germany and Sudan, and is currently studying for a professional doctorate in education.

Alex has taught at the University of Brighton for since 2005, specialising in English for academic purposes and business English. Alex coordinates the Extended Masters programmes as well as the university-wide English Language Support Programme (ELSP). She holds a masters degree in linguistics, and is currently studying for a PhD in Linguistics.

Emily oversees the administration side of the delivery of programmes for the Brighton Language Institute, as well as being responsible for the Finance.
Emily is currently a Masters student at the University of Brighton in her spare time.

Sarah provides advice and guidance to international students on a range of issues to help you adjust to life in the UK, including homesickness or culture shock. Sarah arranges social activities for students and works with the International Student Societies in Brighton and Eastbourne.
She also studies at the University of Brighton, and has been an international student herself.

Having taught extensively both inside and outside the UK, Dominic has been teaching at the Brighton Language Institute since 2008. He has led a number of bespoke courses, and he contributes to all the Institute's English for academic purposes courses.
He has a special interest in English for Specific Purposes in the field of business. Dominic is a graduate of the University of Brighton and holds a Diploma and an MA in Media Assisted Language Teaching. His research iterests include student autonomy and the use of media within learning.

Ailsa has designed and taught courses for young learners, people seeking asylum and other teachers of English. For seven years she has taught English for Academic Study at the University of Brighton.
She holds an MA in TEFL and has specialised in English language management and foundation English courses.
