Pre-sessional English

If you have an offer to study for a degree at the University of Brighton, the pre-sessional English programmes will help you improve your English before you start.

Masters students often choose to follow the extended masters route.

The pre-sessional English programme has several advantages:

  • You will not need to take another IELTS test. You can go straight from the pre-sessional course to your degree, providing you pass our assessments.
  • The pre-sessional English courses are based at the university and taught by tutors who understand the skills and knowledge that you will need for academic success.
  • The pre-sessional programme is an excellent opportunity to meet other students and get used to life in the UK before your degree starts.

If you have an unconditional offer to study for a degree at the University of Brighton, you can still join our pre-sessional programme. Many of our students choose to do this to boost their confidence in academic English before they start. The four-week programme is particularly suitable for this.

If you would like to spend more time developing your English before starting at the University of Brighton or at another UK university, our longer English for Academic Study programme could be right for you.

In this section you can find out more about our 4, 8, 12 and 16 week pre-sessional programmes:

Pre-sessional English

"As a foreign student, English was one of my biggest fears and I thought it would be impossible for me to carry on with my studies. Then I figured out that English is the tool that would pave the way for my future career as an interior designer.

"I joined the pre-sessional English course so I would be able to communicate my ideas and thoughts to others in a language that the whole world would understand. The encouraging, friendly atmosphere that I found on the pre-sessional course, provided by excellent helpful teachers and staff, is the reason why I would recommend this course for anyone who would like to discover the true meaning of the English language."
