You will develop your level of general English. This will provide you with a strong foundation for the next part of the course. The following topics will be covered using a range of general English material:

Develop your English
You will develop your level of general English and you will begin your study of English for academic purposes. The afternoon sessions will introduce you to aspects of British culture. The syllabus is comprehensive:
- Practice in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

- Grammar review and vocabulary development.
- Pronunciation and intonation practice..
- Language learning strategies
- British culture.
Extend your English
You will further develop your level of general and academic English in the following areas:
General English

Academic English
- Preparation for studying in English.
- Listening and note-taking skills from lectures.
- Extensive reading.

Consolidate your English
The final stage of the pre-sessional programme develops your academic English to the level you will need to start your chosen degree. Over the four weeks you will study these areas:
- Research skills.
- Extensive academic reading and note-taking.
- Extending your academic vocabulary.
- Writing successful academic essays, reports and summaries.
- Giving academic presentations.
- Understanding British academic conventions.
