Bionic Ben is hopeful for a medal
Published 30 July 2012
Ben Hawes, who graduated from the University of Brighton in 2003, has been selected for his third Olympic Games and is a medal hopeful in Team GB men's hockey for London 2012. He has competed in the last two Olympic Games and had the honour of captaining the British Hockey Team during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
Ben has been a prominent hockey player for both England and Great Britain since his first international appearance in 2002. He is a highly skilled player with a wealth of experience in playing at the highest level.
Balancing his hockey commitments around his career in marketing, Ben has been a role model in displaying the dedication required to succeed.
Ben has broken two different cheekbones on two separate occasions whilst playing hockey – a fact that earned him the nickname of 'Bionic Ben' at the Beijing Olympics.
All the hockey matches will be played on the striking blue and pink pitches of the Riverbank Arena, using a yellow ball and Ben's journey begins at 7pm on Monday 30 July.
