Glenn Cook: Triathlon coach

Published 10 July 2012

Glenn Cook is a lecturer at the School of Sport and Service Management and is British Triathlon's Olympic head women's coach, a role he took up in June 2011.

He has been coaching in Eastbourne since 1999, running British Triathlon's satellite centre and coaching athletes such as Olly Freeman, Todd Leckie and Sophie Coleman. He is closely linked with Team Bodyworks XTC, which is also based at the university.

He was a swimmer and made it to the national youth squad and European junior championships as a breast stroker. Triathlon wasn't around back in those days, but he became one of the early stars of the sport after taking it up at the age of 21. He won silver behind Mark Allen at the first ever ITU Triathlon World Championships in Avignon in 1989, the year the ITU was formed. He won European titles at 70.3 distance in 1987 and 1992.
