Cooking can also be fun, cheap, health, nutritious and sociable, and you'll know exactly what you are eating.

Always try to eat breakfast, as it kick starts the metabolism and helps with concentration – porridge is cheap and nutritious! Also, try not to wait too long between meals and carry low fat nutritious snacks with you like fruit, nuts and seeds

Below are some must-have utensils and spices for any student kitchen

  • Frying pan or wok (preferably non-stick)
  • 2 pots (two different sizes) at least one with a lid
  • Cooking spoon and spatula
  • A sharp knife
  • Can opener
  • Measuring jug
  • Chopping board

Good to have

  • Grater
  • Colander or sieve
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Vegetable peeler
  • Baking tray
  • Ovenproof dish for lasagne/casserole
  • Weighing scales

  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Oregano
  • Paprika
  • Chilli powder
  • Basil
  • Curry powder

Good to have

  • Olive oil (or other cooking oil)
