NHS health services

All students should register with a GP when they get to Brighton. Find out how to register with your GP

International students attending a course for more than six months qualify for free NHS healthcare. For more information  see UKCISA's health advice for international students. 

There are also a free NHS walk-in clinics in BrightonEastbourne and Hastings

NHS Low Income Scheme

Even if you are not exempt from all NHS charges, if you have a low income you may be able to get help with paying for:

  • NHS prescriptions
  • NHS dental treatment
  • Sight tests, glasses and contact lenses
  • Travel to receive NHS treatment
  • NHS wigs and fabric supports

Dental services

All students can register with the University of Sussex dentist, in the Health Centre on the Sussex campus at Falmer or you can register with a local NHS dentist.

Exercise

Make the most of the beautiful countryside and unspoilt landscape on your doorstep, and enjoy some fresh air by going for bike rides or walks. 

Walking

See the South Downs National Park and East Sussex County Council for routes.

Cycling

See Sustrans or East Sussex County Council for cycling routes and incentives. Keep up to speed with your progress and explore new routes for bike, feet, legs or skateboards with free fitness mapping resources online at www.mapmyfitness.com/

Gym membership 

How often do you go to the gym and how much do you pay for it? The university provides a lot of activities including gym membership at great rates. See SportBrighton. 

If you don’t have a Uni gym nearby, look in to joining one with a partner or friends. There may be offers at Freshers events or during other promotional periods, but remember it’s only worthwhile if you go regularly.

Hair and beauty 

Check with your hairdresser to see if they need a model. You could get a free haircut.

City College Brighton and Hove (CCBH) students provide cheap hair and beauty treatments at the City Revival Salon.
