Shopping
When shopping the first question you need to ask yourself is whether you need something or you just want it. Next, ask yourself if you can afford it, and finally, before you buy it, think if you could get it cheaper somewhere else. Try waiting a week or two after you see something you want to buy before you buy it, and shop around for the best deal you can get.
Shopping tips
- Try to do your shopping in the end-of-season sales.
- Do your research – especially when making a large purchase.
- Ask other students about the cheapest local shops and markets.
- Keep receipts and guarantees in case things go wrong.
- Check with shops to see if you can get a student discount with your NUS card.
- Always invest in a good quality coat, footwear and a bag for university.
- Use vouchers when you go shopping. For a good collection of vouchers and online discount codes MyVoucherCodes.
Think about opportunity cost – If you buy something in the sales, reduced from £200 to £75 it's a fantastic bargain but a waste of money if you only wear it twice.
