Current Projects Adverse events studies The General Osteopathic Council, regulator of osteopathy in the United Kingdom, funded a call for proposals in 2007 to investigate adverse events associated with osteopathic practice. Information concerning the original call for proposals can be found here (pdf 38Kb). Further information concerning the progress of these studies can be found here. Standardised Data Collection NCOR, in collaboration with practising osteopaths, has developed a standardised data collection (SDC) tool for osteopaths in private practice. Further information concerning this project can be found under 'Standardised Data Collection'. In 2010, a data collection project was undertaken to examine the presentation of cervical spine symptoms in daily practice. A copy of the final project report is being prepared currently. In 2011, a short form of the standardised data collection tool was developed for day-to-day use in practice. A copy of this developmental work is being prepared currently. Osteopathic patient expectation study This project was undertaken to gain a deeper understanding of patients' expectations of osteopaths and osteopathic treatment, and the extent to which these are met. The results will help all osteopaths to shape their practices to meet the needs and expectations of their patients most effectively. Osteopathic practices around the country were being invited to participate in one of the most important programmes of research for osteopaths and their patients to be undertaken in 2009/2010. Further information about this study and a copy of the full project report can be found at www.patientexpectationstudy.org.uk. Other projects Literature review of the osteopathic management of childhood conditions This work is ongoing. Narrative review of cranial osteopathy This work is ongoing. Investigating research priorities in osteopathy The protocol for this project has been developed and has been submitted to the University of Brighton Faculty of Health Research Ethics and Governance Committee for ethics review. It is anticipated the project will begin in late 2011. Exploring osteopaths' views on the development of a career pathway for osteopathy This project has been developed by members of the Exeter research hub. A protocol and questionnaire have been developed; they have been submitted to the University of Brighton Faculty of Health Research Ethics and Governance Committee for ethics review.
