Top student gets on the fast track

15.09.2003

Paolo Di Vincenzo (right), a former student at the University of Brighton, has been chosen for a challenging management entry programme by Swiss firm Roche Diagnostics.

Paolo graduated in 2001 with a BSc (Hons) in European Business with Technology. During his four-year degree he undertook two industrial placements. He studied and worked in the UK and Italy, leading to a job with Roche Diagnostics in Lewes after his graduation. Paolo was given the task of designing and implementing a customer relations database system and running consumer marketing campaigns.

The project had many implications for marketing and other management functions. Paolo delivered the project within five months with specifications and solutions exceeding the initial brief, and spent another twelve months putting the system in place. He is the first employee to be assigned to the company’s Global Management Entry Program.

The two-year programme consists of three or four project assignments in a minimum of two different business areas, functions and countries. Paolo is presently on his first assignment at Global Business Development, Switzerland, and will join the company’s German organisation for his second.

According to Paolo,

"My degree at the University of Brighton provided me with the ability to deal with functional experts whether from the operational, financial, marketing or any other side of the business.

"The combination of studying and working in the UK and Italy created a flexibility, independence, adaptability, cultural awareness and mobility which will stand me in good stead in my working life."
