Launch of the Eastbourne Hatchery

16.09.2003

A new business incubation project will launch next month in Eastbourne. Targeted at individuals with great ideas, the Eastbourne Hatchery will provide business incubation support to enterprises with high growth potential in knowledge-based sectors.

The Hatchery is the first stage in the development of the Eastbourne Enterprise Hub, one of a number across the region funded by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA). The Eastbourne Hub has been established by a partnership led by the University of Brighton, Eastbourne Reborn, Eastbourne Borough Council and East Sussex County Council, and includes local partners from both the private and public sectors.

The Hatchery will provide business facilities - workstations, meeting rooms and general office support - to its resident entrepreneurs. Hatchery space will be provided on a short-term basis, normally 12 to 18 months. The Hatchery team will also guide resident entrepreneurs to appropriate sources of professional advice and business mentoring support to help them to build a sustainable business.

Local businessman Nik Askaroff, Managing Director of the Cibus Group and Business Champion for the Hub commented,

"Mentoring is fundamental to the success of an early stage technology enterprise, and this is one of the Hatchery’s key differentiators. The local business community can help by actively supporting young entrepreneurs with coaching and encouragement."

Ray Wynne, Hub Director, added,

"This presents a real opportunity for new enterprises in Eastbourne to develop their ideas in a truly supportive environment."
