The Observatory Science Centre at Herstmonceux is hosting a competition for senior school students from across Sussex. The competition is being supported by SETPOINT Sussex, at the University of Brighton, with the offer of Science and Engineering Ambassadors and £50 per team.
The students have been asked to work as a team to design and develop a 'hands-on' exhibit. Students will give a short demonstration of their exhibit idea to the judges and then be asked about the design concept, development of the idea, and how it would work if incorporated into a real science centre.
The competition is being judged on Wednesday 12th November with the winners announced on the day at 2pm.
Judges will be Stephen Pizzey, director of Science Projects Ltd, Mo Khan, Science and Engineering ambassador at Southern Water and Rob Tiffin, a retired senior lecturer in science education at the University of Brighton.
Each student participating will receive an achievement certificate and Nasa CD Rom 'The Dynamic Sun'. Students in the winning team will each receive an Intel Play QX3 computer microscope. There are ten teams taking part from St Richard's Catholic College in Bexhill-on-Sea, Oathall Community College in Haywards Heath, Robertsbridge Community College, Downlands Community School in Hassocks, Peacehaven Community School and Varndean School in Brighton.
Bronagh Liddicoat, SETPOINT Sussex Manager said, "I am delighted that Sussex students are getting the opportunity to engage in exciting design for a local science centre."
