@ctive students go Brazilian

03.11.2003

An invitation to a one off presentation: 3.00 – 5.00 Monday 15th December
Chelsea School Sports Centre, Denton Road, Eastbourne

Brazilian Soccer Schools and Brazilian Soccer Academy
(In association with University of Brighton and @ctive students)

Brazilian Soccer Schools were introduced to the UK back in 1996 by Simon Clifford (a former Leeds Primary Teacher), via a friendship initiated with the Middlesbrough footballer Juninho (of Brazil). The schools focus upon the unique game of 'Futebol de Salao' (pronounced futebol de salon), and specific scientific methods of coaching, coupled with Brazilian technical training.

'Futebol de Salao' (FdS) is a fast-moving 5-a-side game, played on a basketball-sized court with a size 2, heavy ball (approx 200g heavier than a conventional ball). The reduced space, coupled with the extra weight of the ball rapidly increases dribbling, control, passing, decision-making and basic co-ordination skills. Recent research from Manchester Metropolitan University, Leeds Metropolitan University and the University of Northumbria has proven FdS offers 400% more contact time with the ball than conventional football, and has been labelled "the best skill developer for children".

During this presentation qualified coaches will be working with 40 year 5/6 pupils (Boys and Girls) from St Johns Meads Junior School in order to provide you with examples of how trainee PE teachers may integrate this small sided conditioned game within the context of their own PE lessons.

Alongside developing players, the Academy was initiated to train others for the ICFDS Brazilian coaching license. The license is extremely unique; it has to be renewed each year, and requires constant coaching in order to apply for the license as FdS is extremely different from football coaching and the methods need to be honed. At present, there are only 5 people in Sussex with the licence. In this respect they would like to recruit any interested University of Brighton students into their coaching team in the Sussex area.

The following is a brief description of what they require:

  1. No experience necessary, but ANY basic FA badges or teaching experience is an advantage
  2. All coaching is voluntary, for 1-2 hours per week maximum - YOU MUST be committed
  3. In return for your commitment:
    - Free ICFDS Brazilian Coaching License fee will be paid (worth over £200)
    - Free Nike kit as soon as they have shown continued commitment
    - Invaluable teaching experience with both beginner children, school children and elite level players
