'Those dark materials' - inaugural lecture

Sergey Mikhalovsky, Professor of Materials Chemistry at the University of Brighton will give his inaugural lecture 'Those Dark Materials' this week.

Professor Mikhalovsky, from the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, will talk about his scientific experience on Thursday 5 February at 6.30pm at the Sallis Benney Theatre, Grand Parade in Brighton.

The lecture will be about the use of carbon materials for biomedical and environmental applications. It will include a brief overview of the history, current knowledge and ideas for the future. Sergey said,

"Carbon materials are a fascinating subject full of drama and exciting discoveries. The topic of the lecture is chosen on the basis of my scientific experience and has been a subject of my research since the 1980s back in the former USSR and today at the University of Brighton."

Professor Mikhalovsky has been working at the University of Brighton since 1994 and spent the previous twenty years at the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and has lectured across the world - in China, Japan, the USA and Europe.
