The University of Brighton will honour two former students, who will compete in the forthcoming Athens Olympics, at its annual Sports Awards Dinner.
On Friday 21 May at the Winter Garden in Eastbourne, both Kate Allenby and Ben Hawes will attend the annual dinner which is hosted by the university’s Students’ Union in order to bestow university colours upon sports students.
Kate Allenby is the reigning Olympic bronze medallist in Modern Pentathlon. Ben Hawes will be making his Olympic debut for the Great Britain hockey team in Athens.

The two former students will be inducted into the University’s Sporting Hall of Fame, joining two other former students, Dave Luckes, a triple Olympian in Hockey and Sarah Clarke, who has played cricket for England.
The Students’ Union Activities Manager Tim Kelly said, “We are delighted to have both Kate and Ben attend the dinner. It is a significant coup for us and their attendance raises the profile of this event, which has grown in popularity since its beginning in 1998.”
As well as inducting Kate Allenby and Ben Hawes into the Hall of Fame, elite sports students will be awarded half colour and colours. Since 1998, fifty-five students have been given these awards by the university. The Awards Dinner will also announce the Coach of the Year, the Sports Administrator of the Year, the Club of the Year and the prestigious Team of the Year award.
