On 16 May 2005, a leading authority on contemporary British history and Headmaster of Brighton College, Dr. Anthony Seldon, presents his post election analysis on the state of politics in modern Britain.
Entitled The Contemporary Political Landscape: Why Blair and Howard have not fulfilled their promises, the event will be held at the University Centre Hastings at 6:30pm.
In particular Dr. Seldon, the biographer for Tony Blair and John Major, will examine the impact of Mr Blair, Labour’s longest serving Prime Minister and electorally its most successful.
Dr. Seldon comments:
"Mr Blair came to power with ambitious plans to lead one of the 'great radical reforming governments in recent history'. Yet eight years into his premiership, the mark he personally has made domestically on the country has been moderate, on Europe as yet undecided, and on the world at large and the Middle East an open book."
The talk will examine the paradoxes and open verdicts of the Blair premiership as he leads the country into another term under New Labour.
University Centre Hastings provides courses delivered and awarded by the University of Brighton, University of Sussex, Open University, Canterbury Christ Church University College and Hastings College of Arts and Technology. It is a core part of the Hastings & Bexhill Task Force's education-led strategy for local economic regeneration.
