Lift
Off - 7pm Saturday 4 June
The all male University of Brighton Kick Start Dance Company together with the newly formed all female dance company Fidget, and 60 young dancers from secondary schools in the region present 'Lift Off', an evening of contemporary dance.
The event will take place at the Gardner Arts Centre, on the University of Sussex campus in Falmer, on Saturday 4 June at 7pm and schools taking part include those with a national reputation for excellence in dance as well as ones where former company members now teach and have introduced dance to the curriculum.
'Lift Off' seeks to recognise the contribution of the University of Brighton in 'launching' the careers of young dance teachers; and as a consequence the opportunity for many children to experience the enjoyment of dancing.
Schools in the region taking part include Ringmer Community College, The Hayesbrook School, Tonbridge, Patcham High School, Brighton, Brighton & Hove Youth Dance Group, Davison C of E High School for Girls, Worthing.
Artistic Director Fiona Smith said:
"The night seeks to present contemporary dance as part of a broad and balanced dance education and challenge the performers to broaden their horizons and seek inspiration in and from dance."
Tickets are available from the Gardner Arts Centre, on
01273 685861, priced £6.
