Over 600 staff past and present came together to wish Sir David Watson well as he retires as Vice-Chancellor at a reception held at the Brighton Dome on Monday 11 July.
"David is one of the outstanding vice-chancellors of his generation and has made a huge impact on the university community," said Sir Michael Checkland, Chairman of the Board of Governors.
"David has rendered a huge service to higher education and there is no name more highly respected in the sector than David Watson's." Lord Ron Dearing commented "He has not only found time to maintain his scholarship and commitment to the arts, but also to run a major university at the same time."
Sir David Watson said: "The University of Brighton inspires loyalty and it deserves the support that it gets. As I leave I'm pleased to say that it’s one of the most respected universities in the country and I look forward to watching it go from strength to strength."
