Guardian photographer, Roger Bamber will be awarded an honorary degree of Master of Arts at the university's awards ceremony on 29 July.
Roger, who lives in Brighton, trained in design and has been a photojournalist since 1965. In his 40-year career his work has been published in every national newspaper. He has been British Press Photographer of the Year twice and when he was travelling the world covering everything from war to rock music he was twice News Photographer of the Year.

For the past 16 years he has been part of the Guardian's photographic team and his work has won him numerous awards for feature photography. His home-town of Brighton is often the focal point of his photographs and he has been commissioned to provide the photographs for the 2006 Brighton and Hove calendar.
Describing Roger's unique visual style, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Stuart Laing said: "A Bamber picture gives visual pleasure and we marvel at the skill and artistry which has captured the image. It also always tells a story of human significance, whether that of a politician or rock star revealing their deepest self or, as so often in more recent Bamber pictures, of ordinary people showing how extraordinary we all of us are capable of becoming."

Roger said: "It is a great honour to receive this award from the University of Brighton. Over the years, the university and the work of its staff and students have provided a wealth of diverse material to photograph."
Stuart Laing commented: "The University of Brighton is a university that especially values professionalism, creativity and the skills of the designer and the master craftsman in the service of human purposes. It is a university which is proud to be part of this unique and extravagant city that is Brighton and Hove and is never more pleased than when it can pay tribute to its exceptional citizens. In Roger Bamber we recognise and today honour a kindred spirit - an outstanding and original photographer and a true Brightonian."
