CENTRIM welcomes 100 international innovation researchers to Brighton

18.08.2005

Over 100 delegates will share expertise in innovation at the 6th International Continuous Innovation Network (CINet) conference. The event, hosted by CENTRIM, takes place in Brighton from 4th to 6th September at the Freeman Centre.

The conference brings together leading researchers and industrialists. Delegates will hear from business leader, Emily Aiken, who has been instrumental in the development and growth of digital media in Brighton and the South-East and until recently headed Wired Sussex, the business development agency for the sector.

Venture capitalist Dr Gerry Lemberg, who has successfully supported innovative companies in the digital media sector, will outline how combining innovation and entrepreneurship is central in securing funding for good ideas.

The conference will also hear a keynote speech by Yves Doz, Professor of Global Technology and Innovation at INSEAD, one of the world's leading business schools based in France. Professor Doz will discuss recent thinking about 'coalitions of interest' linking innovation and collaboration. In particular, Professor Doz will consider what processes facilitate coalition development and sustainability.

Overall, some 60 papers will also be presented on the future challenges of innovation and new directions in continuous innovation.

Dr Andrew Grantham, who has convened this year's conference said: "The event mirrors the aims of CINet. In a nutshell, these are to study continuous innovation and how to embed it in firms and other organizations through fostering a culture of employee high involvement, participation and new systems and ways of working."

"The conference has a very practical agenda. CINet has a history of doing cutting edge business research that is usable by industry; often the outputs are tools and techniques for practitioners which have been designed in partnership with managers and piloted in real businesses. CENTRIM, for example, has created a number of tools such as the Continuous Improvement Self-assessment Tool that helps businesses to measure CI; and the Agility Audit is used across a range of companies keen to improve their flexibility."
