A statue of University of Brighton graduate, Alison Lapper, is the latest addition to Trafalgar Square's fourth plinth.
Mark Quinn's 13-ton, 11ft 6in high white marble sculpture 'Alison Lapper Pregnant' is a portrait of the disabled artist when she was eight months pregnant.
Alison, who graduated in 1993 from the university with a first class degree in Fine Art said: "I regard it as a modern tribute to femininity, disability and motherhood. It is so rare to see disability in everyday life - let alone naked, pregnant and proud."
Mark Quinn spent 10 months working on the statue in Italy from a single piece of white marble.
The fourth plinth will be used as an ever-changing display of artworks. The statue will be displayed until April 2007 when it will be replaced by Thomas Schutte's 'Hotel for the Birds'.
