Entrepreneurial students learn from experts

04.11.2005

Five outstanding Sussex entrepreneurs will reveal the secrets of their success to University of Brighton students who aspire to put their innovative ideas into practise at an event called 'Tales of Extraordinary Enterprise' which takes place on 16 November.

Taking an imaginative approach to sharing business expertise, the event will feature four 'master classes' delivered at the same time, to members of beepurple, the university's entrepreneurship network, and observed by a hundred members of the local business community.

Master classes will be delivered by founders of organic chocolate maker Green & Black's, Craig Sams and his wife Josephine Fairley, and Jim Mcniven, Creative Director of award wining digital marketing company, Kerb. Martin Webb presenter of Channel 4's 'Risking It All' and co-founder of C-Side a chain of pubs and clubs, and Richard Daws, co-founder of Victoria Real (purchased by Edemol maker's of Big Brother) who is now director of the Komedia Group will also pass their expertise.

The event, co-ordinated by the university's Entrepreneurship Manager, Jane L. North said: "Our aim is not only to celebrate innovation, but to allow students to learn directly from those who have turned innovation into successful businesses."

Entrepreneur Craig Sams said: "Despite the ever growing consolidation of global mega corporations, paradoxically there is now even more opportunity for entrepreneurship and niche building than ever before. We welcome this opportunity to share our experiences in these workshops with students from the University of Brighton."

Richard Daws said: "Everyone has a hundred great business ideas in the pub. Making them reality is somewhat harder. I can now share the story of making ours real - the 12 years of work, and many failed ideas, that eventually led to our company being perceived an overnight success."
