Exhibition explores notion of forgiveness

27.02.2006

An exhibition exploring the idea of forgiveness in the face of atrocity opens in Sussex from 4 to 13 March.

The F Word: forgivenessHosted by the university, the 'F Word' exhibition aims to tell the stories of people who have discovered that the only way to move on is to set aside hatred and blame.

The exhibition is part of an initiative that explores and celebrates the less publicised stories of people who have survived tragedy, lived through atrocity and found it in themselves to forgive.

Its subjects include Berth and Francis Climbie, parents of 7-year old Victoria Climbie who was abused and murdered by her aunt; Marion Partington, whose sister was murdered by Fredrick West; Pat Magee, the man behind the IRA Brighton bomb and Jo Berry, whose father was killed in the blast; Duma Kumalo, one of the Sharpville six, wrongly imprisoned for a murder he didn't commit; Andrew Rice, whose brother David was killed in the World Trade Centre bombing.

The exhibition is organised by the Forgiveness Project, an organisation, working with grassroots projects in the fields of conflict resolution, reconciliation and victim support.

The Forgiveness Project is a non-partisan, non-religious charitable organisation working at a local, national and international level to promote conflict resolution and restorative practices as alternatives to endless cycles of conflict, violent and crime that are hallmarks of our time.
