University sponsors Brighton Festival 2006

28.04.2006

The University of Brighton is proud to be a sponsor of Brighton Festival and a supporter of the arts across the city and the region.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Julian Crampton said: "This year we are delighted to sponsor the Viktoria Mullova Ensemble at Glyndebourne."

Viktoria Mullova (pictured right), is an internationally acclaimed violinist whose extraordinary talent captured international attention when she won first prize at the 1980 Sibelius Competition in Helsinki and the Gold Medal at the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1982, as a Moscow Conservatoire graduate.

Since then she has appeared with most of the world's greatest orchestras and conductors and at the major international festivals. The Mullova Ensemble was born out of her admiration for the great chamber music masterpieces. Together with like-minded international soloists the ensemble gave their inaugural concerts in the summer of 1994 and in 1996 their first CD featuring Bach's violin concertos was released by Philips Classics to great critical acclaim.

The Viktoria Mullova Ensemble will be performing at Glyndebourne on Sunday 7 May at 3pm. Reservations can be made on 01273 812510 or online at the Brighton Festival website.

The university is also involved in a number of Brighton Festival Fringe events - see our current events for details.
