The University of Brighton is renowned for producing some of the most influential names in fashion including Julien Macdonald, Mark Eley of Eley Kishimoto, Sarah Arnette of Brighton-based fashion label Simultane and bespoke tailor Gresham Blake.

The next generation of fashion designers are set to be discovered at this year's University of Brighton Graduate Fashion Show.

Top London catwalk models will showcase cutting-edge designs by sixty-one fashion and textile students. The university's emerging talents include, Camilla Spaven, Emily Whitehead and James McAra.

A trip to Barcelona provided the inspiration for Camilla's capsule women's wear collection - the colours and shapes of Gaudi's architecture influenced the designer's approach. Camilla undertook a range of work placements, with John Rocha in Dublin, Leah C Couture Millinery in New York, as well as George at Asda, based in Leicester.

Emily Whitehead's collection entitled 'Ribbons, Garters and Bows' was inspired by 1940s underwear and 1950s twinsets.

James McAra completed a year's internship with the prestigious British fashion house Burberry. His menswear collection draws inspiration from timeless classic menswear and its enduring style.

Commenting on his experience at the university James said: "The course at Brighton has a fantastic atmosphere, its tutors and class mates are really supporting and motivating. The course was incredibly intense - it pushed me to my creative limits and allowed me to fulfil my aspirations."

The show is a launch pad for many graduates into the fashion and textiles industry. Style minded consumers and related creative industries see this event as a must in their calendars. It provides an ideal opportunity to glimpse future trends, recruit students and commission work from new designers before they become household names, as has been the track record from the University of Brighton.

"As well as being a celebration for both students and there families, our fashion show draws some of the area's top designers and clothing company representatives who come to scout for future talent and have a fun and exciting night," said course leader Malcolm McInnes.

"Our students work extremely hard on this event and it shows - it is an amazing experience for them to be part of such a prestigious event."

Tickets are required for the fashion show and can be obtained from the graduate show hotline on 01273 6440999. Last year the university's fashion show drew a sell-out so advance booking is advised.
