Chemistry festival fun at university

13.06.2006

Thirty-six students from 18 schools in the south-east enjoyed an interesting fun-filled day of chemistry at the Salters' Festival of Chemistry held at the university yesterday (12 June). Each school was represented by a team of four 11-13 year olds.

Teams took part in a competitive, hands-on, practical activity - 'The Mystery at Salty Towers' in which they used their analytical chemistry skills. They competed in the 'University Challenge', in which they were required to solve cryptic chemistry problems. This was followed by a fun lecture, by Dr Hal Sosabowski involving the Methane Mamba, the Magnesium Sandwich, the Pulsing Reaction and many more.
