To meet the changing demands of the pensions industry, the Pensions Regulator, the regulatory body for work-based pension schemes in the UK, has commissioned the Brighton Business School at the University of Brighton to develop and deliver a business skills programme for its staff.
The aim of the programme is to equip staff with skills in decision making and problem solving and to convey an understanding of the most current theories and practice in business, management and financial issues.
The Brighton Business School has made use of the latest technologies and created a programme combining online learning with face-to-face tuition. The onus is on relating classroom learning directly to the day-to-day business of the regulator.
The Pensions Regulator chief executive Tony Hobman said: "We believe that the business skills programme will provide our staff with the necessary tools to develop their existing skills and enable them to further their potential. This will inevitably benefit the work we do at the regulator."
The Brighton Business School has a successful track record of working with industry, particularly in the provision of up to date and relevant business education. Working with the Pensions Regulator offered the School the opportunity to partner with a progressive organisation that recognises that the key to any business' success is its people.
Professor Aidan Berry, Head of the Brighton Business School, says: "This is a great example of collaboration in course design that will ensure that we meet the needs of both the employer and their employees."
"We are pleased to have been able to work with the Pensions Regulator to design and build a course tailored to meet their needs which combines essential face to face contact with e-learning and provides an approach to learning that meets the needs of the 21st century."
The course starts on 20 October 2006. For further information contact Brighton Business School.
