Cupp trustees project hosts matching event

03.11.2006

An event aiming to bring together potential local trustees and organisations requiring them is being held 5.30-8pm on 15 November 2006 in the Auditorium, Brighthelm Centre, North Road Brighton. The intention is to increase numbers of well matched and prepared new trustees from the university and local businesses to community and voluntary sector organisations.

In June the university's Community University Partnership Programme (Cupp) allocated £7,000 to this year long project. As well as the initial funding, Brighton & Hove Business Community Partnership, Working Together Project, Brighton & Hove Community Initiatives, Volunteer Centre Brighton & Hove and the university's @ctive Student are contributing in kind support and expertise. Additional funding for this event has come from The National Governance Hub for England.

As well as the November matching event objectives for the project include the provision of training and support to people taking up trustee positions, raising awareness of the benefits of becoming a trustee and producing an information pack for both community and voluntary sector organisations and potential trustees.

"Becoming a trustee is a superb way of supporting your local community while enhancing your own personal and professional development." Says David Wolff, Director of Cupp. "We aim to de-mystify what it is to be a trustee while offering practical support and introductions to potential trustees and local organisations."

If you have ever considered becoming a trustee or a member of a management committee, would like to meet with local community and voluntary organisations looking to recruit trustees or would just like to find out what being a trustee means, come along on 15 November and find out more.

If you would like to attend or have any questions about the event, please contact Fiona Edwards on (01273) 643182 or at f.c.a.edwards@brighton.ac.uk. You can also download registration forms from the Cupp website.
