First e-learning course developed

14.12.2006

The University of Brighton is ready to launch its first course delivered entirely via e-learning. The new MA in Tourism and Leisure Management has been developed jointly with Ecole de Management in Normandy with £330,000 funding from the EU.

The course is aimed at professionals already working in the tourism and leisure industry who want to complete a masters or undertake modules as part of their professional development. The flexible delivery of the course means that students can learn at their own pace whilst benefiting from expert tutorial support for the duration of their studies.

The learning materials have been developed in conjunction with Ingenium which is recognised by the EU as one of the top 10 developers of e-learning materials in Europe.

Students can expect to cover topics such as resource management and strategy implementation and undertake modules in critical issues in tourism, sustainable tourism, entrepreneurship, international law, project management and sales and negotiation.

Graduates can expect to go on to jobs in marketing and communication in the tourism and leisure sector, tourism consultancy, event or conference management or to set up their own business.

Professor Pete Burns, head of the centre for tourism policy studies, at the university said: "This course will develop you intellectually and professionally. The skills and knowledge you will gain will have a significant impact on the operation, management and strategic direction of your organisation."
