Over 200 of the university's diverse international student community descended upon the Sallis Benney Theatre at Grand Parade last week for an evening of celebration.
Held
each year by the international office team to welcome the ever-growing
international and EU student community into the university, the evening
proved to be a feast for the senses.
Food and wine from around the globe was served, with live performances from a salsa band, traditional Chinese dancers and street break-dancers setting the atmosphere for the evening.
Praising the contributions the international students make to the local community were Vice-Chancellor Professor Julian Crampton and the Mayors of Brighton and Eastbourne, who were all on hand to welcome the students.
It was also a chance for the international office team to meet some of the international students they work so hard to recruit. International Officer Beth Berney, a driving force behind the evening, explains:
"We are very proud of the fact that so many students from so many different parts of the world choose to live and study here. They have helped to create a genuinely international and cosmopolitan student population at the University of Brighton."

The university boasts a thriving international community of around 1,300 students from over 105 countries. Candy Koenig (pictured above - far right), studying Pharmaceutical and Chemical Science, was one of the many student ambassadors at the evening giving a helping hand to make sure the event ran smoothly. Candy says:
"I'm half German and half Ghanaian so I truly am international! It's really important for the university to hold events like these. It makes you meet so many other people and I've made some great friends during my time here."
