The University of Brighton Students' Union (UBSU) has raised over £6,000 for local charities this year following a successful revival of the traditional RAG week.
After months of planning Raise and Give (RAG) week saw students across the university's campuses come together for a week full of activities.
Brighton campus kicked off with a five-aside football tournament and the ski and snowboard team organised a charity ball and raffle. In Eastbourne, the hockey team cycled 1,000km in the campus gym, while others opted for the easier option of a Valentine's ball, karaoke evening and much more.
University staff also got involved with a 'kidnap a lecturer' event to raise funds in aid of the cause and library staff kindly volunteered all the library fines collected during the RAG week.
Three of the five charities to receive the valuable funds visited the Students' Union to receive their cheque. They included The Martlets Hospice, which offers support to adult patients for whom curative treatment is no longer possible; The Survivors' Network, which supports women who were abused as children; and The Manor, a sports club providing activities for children. Other charities to receive a donation included DGH Special Care Baby Unit and Demelza House Children's Hospice, which supports children who are not expected to live into their adulthood.

Becca Mann, UBSU president, said: “We would like to thank all the staff and students that took part and donated their hard-earned cash! The week would not have been possible without the support of the university community and local businesses who kindly donated prizes and their venues to the cause, so a big thanks to you all.”
