The university's ambitions, priorities, challenges and future direction are now set out in the Corporate plan for 2007-12, published this month. Centred around six aims, the plan looks to capture the range of work taking place across the institution and will shape key areas of activity.
The first three objectives address the core of what we do as a university - the curriculum, research, economic and social engagement. The second three aims concentrate on how we work with students and staff, through the working and learning environment and through the management and governance of the university.
Many members of staff and external stakeholders contributed to the development of the plan. Vice-Chancellor Professor Julian Crampton, will now chair a series of meetings for all staff to outline the main themes of the publication and to explore aspects of its implementation.
Professor Crampton said: "I believe that the plan demonstrates that the university is a mature, self-confident and self-critical academic community which creates and responds to opportunities for development. It works with others to achieve shared objectives and develops the individual ambitions of its staff and students."
The next stage will see local plans produced by faculties and departments addressing the key objectives set out in the corporate plan. In addition, a set of strategies to address particular areas of activity across the institution such as research, economic and social engagement and staffing will be produced for the Board of Governors which will also be monitoring the progress of the plan's implementation.
