Wayne Hemingway to open Brighton fashion show

29.05.2007

Founder of the Red or Dead label, Wayne Hemingway, makes a rare reappearance into the fashion world as he opens the University of Brighton's graduate fashion show on 2 June.

This year's show sees over 40 fashion and textile students unveiling their work to an audience of family and friends as well as leading industry figures. The event provides an ideal opportunity to glimpse future trends, recruit students and commission work from new designers before they become household names, as has been the track record from the University of Brighton.

Emerging talent includes Stephanie Le Cocq, who won the Textile Society Student Bursary Award 2007 for Art and Design in Fashion and Textiles nationwide. Her printed textile designs are based on the Northern Lights and will be showcased alongside Nikki Fishpool's vibrant collection (pictured below). Nikki completed a successful placement with Marks & Spencer.

One item from Nikki Fishpool's collectionKnitwear student, Alexandra Geldenhuys, has used recycled and organic materials to produce her collection, not only to reduce her impact on the environment but to demonstrate the potential use of these resources.

"As well as being a time for celebration for both students and there families, our fashion show draws some of the area's top designers and clothing company representatives who come to scout for future talent," said course leader Malcolm McInnes. "We are delighted Wayne Hemingway will be joining us for this special event."

Hemingway won the prestigious British Fashion Council's Streetstyle Designer of the year for three consecutive years, and has since focused his attention on Hemingway Design which specialises in affordable and social housing design. His latest venture is a design resource 'The Land of Lost Content' which is a world first and has to be seen to be believed. Go to www.lolc.co.uk.

Tickets are required for the fashion show and cost £10 and can be obtained from the graduate show hotline on 01273 6440999. Year-on-year the university's fashion show draws a sell-out so advance booking is advised.
