The cultural landmarks of Brighton are to become a catalyst for creative debate as leading higher arts education teachers and researchers come together for the third European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA) Teachers’ Academy at the University of Brighton.
Brighton’s Royal Pavilion and award-winning library are among the sites delegates are set to tour to explore the cultural context of the city and stimulate debate about arts education.
Celebrating all facets of art, from architecture, dance and design, to fine art, media arts, music and theatre, delegates will discuss the distinctive relationship between learning, research and teaching through a series of interactive presentations and workshops.
Carrying the umbrella theme of creativity, the two-day event sits well at the university’s Grand Parade campus, which is renowned as an international centre of excellence in creative arts, architecture, design and humanities.
The event is supported by the Centre
for Excellence in Teaching and Learning through Design (CETLD) and the Art
Design Media Subject Centre (ADMHEA),
both of which are located at the university.
Founded in 1990, the ELIA is an independent membership organisation representing
approximately 350 higher arts education institutions from over 45 countries.
Previous ELIA Teachers’ Academies have been held in Barcelona (2003)
and Rotterdam (2005).
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Julian Crampton said:
“The university is delighted and honoured to be hosting the EILA Teachers’ Academy
in Brighton. The event offers us the opportunity to engage with and participate
in an international debate about innovation and research in creative education.”
The third European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA) Teachers’ Academy takes place from 12-14 July 2007.
